Alger (People's Daily) - To celebrate the first International Day of Living Together in Peace, Algeria organized a series of activities about the Silk Road in the capital Alger.

As the introductory chapter of the series, a photo exhibit about international corporation of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) was held at Culture Palace on Tuesday.

Hosted by the Algerian Ministry of Culture and Zaphira Yacef Fondation, the series of activities consists of galas, cultural events and the 'Peaceful Coexistence on the Silk Road' Forum, and will last for three months.

May 16, 2018, is the first International Day of Living Together in Peace. As a means of regularly mobilizing the efforts of the international community to promote peace, tolerance, inclusion, understanding and solidarity, the day aims to uphold the desire to live and act together, united in differences and diversity, in order to build a sustainable world of peace, solidarity and harmony. The United Nations has declared that the day will be celebrated every year.

"There are common points between the win-win cooperation and the spirit of the Chinese Silk Road and the Peaceful Coexistence proposed by Algeria. This series of activities is the result of cultural communication between China and Algeria since diplomatic relations were established in 1958." said Azzedine Mihoubi, the minister of culture.

The Chinese Embassy in Algeria provided 60 pictures on international corporation in the BRI for the photo exhibit. Minister-counselor Hongyan He said this exhibit shows the Algerian government's support for the BRI and the international influence of the initiative.

"As international corporation of the BRI advances, Algeria also joined and showed a strong desire to cooperate with China. Our two countries are in close contact on the BRI. We might soon sign an agreement to advance the construction of the BRI. It will be a new achievement of the 60-year diplomatic relations and will promote a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries," said Hongyan He.
