China is committed to building a community with a shared future for mankind and promoting a new type of international relations featuring mutual respect, fairness, justice and win-win cooperation, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said at a regular press briefing on Monday.

Elaborating on the major country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics, he added that Beijing will contribute to the building of an open, inclusive, clean and beautiful world that features lasting peace, universal security and common prosperity.

Geng made the remarks when answering questions about a two-day conference on China's foreign affairs last Friday and Saturday. 

In his address at the Central Conference on Work Relating to Foreign Affairs, Chinese President Xi Jinping underscored the importance of keeping in mind both internal and international imperatives, focusing on realizing China's rejuvenation and promoting human progress, and contributing to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Xi, also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and chairman of the Central Military Commission, urged efforts to firmly safeguard China's sovereignty, security and development interests, take an active part in leading the reform of the global governance system, and build a more complete network of global partnerships.

The flag of a community with a shared future for mankind should be upheld to help make the global governance system fairer and more reasonable, and the construction of the Belt and Road should be solidified and deepened to elevate the country's opening up to a new level, said Xi.

Proposed by the Chinese president in 2013, the Belt and Road Initiative comprises the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, and aims to build trade and infrastructure networks connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along and beyond the ancient Silk Road routes.

The most important outcome of the conference was that it established the guiding position of Xi's thought on diplomacy, Geng noted.

Under the guidance of the thought, China will remain steadfast in promoting world peace, contributing to global development, and maintaining international order, said Geng.

He told reporters that the Chinese Foreign Ministry convened a symposium among all Chinese ambassadors to foreign countries on Sunday to brief them on the conference and Xi's speech. Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi addressed the symposium, according to Geng.
