China sends more doctors to Wuhan as coronavirus deaths surge past 1,500

China on Saturday deployed more medics to the coronavirus-hit city of Wuhan as the death toll surged past 1,500 in the country while authorities set stringent new quarantine rules for people returning from Lunar New Year vacations.

The National Health Commission said 143 new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours across the country with 139 of them taking place in Hubei province, the epicenter of the disease.
