China, UK to accelerate efforts in the 'golden era'

Chinese President Xi Jinping and British Prime Minister Theresa May agreed on Thursday to further promote the "Golden Era" of bilateral ties between the two sides.

President Xi spoke on the phone with May on Thursday, noting that China is willing to work with the UK under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and bring more opportunities for China-UK relations in the “golden era”.

The two leaders also exchanged views on Syria and global trade.

On Syria, Xi reemphasized China's position that a comprehensive and objective investigation is needed for the alleged chemical attack. China is willing to work with the international community to solve the Syrian crisis as soon as possible.

In the trade front, both leaders agree to further support free trade and open markets. 

May spoke highly of a set of further opening-up measures proposed by Xi during the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia. She pointed out the UK is willing to work with China and actively push the relationship between the two countries to the next level.
