Among the ceremony’s guests were heads of 10 Shimao charity hospitals in provinces including Sichuan, Yun'nan, Gansu and Shanxi, whose hospitals would be the recipients of more than 20 pieces of equipment like ambulances, electronic gastroscopes and colonoscopes, DR digital imaging systems and full-digital color ultrasound diagnostic systems.

While equipping these hospitals to provide better care to local patients, staff of the Shimao Group also invited the Xinhua Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine once more to further build the hospitals’ capacity, such as building a cloud platform for networking and a long-distance doctor consultation mechanism.

For 13 years since 2008, the Shimao Group has been funding over 100 charity hospitals in 9 provinces such as Sichuan, Yun'nan, Gansu, Shanxi, Hebei and Jiangxi, with their services covering more than 20 million.

“This is a most rewarding program, as we are truly glad to see that local patients find good treatment for minor health issues in their villages, and for serious diseases in township hospitals without having to go further. We are also proud to contribute to the country’s rural revitalization and the improvement of people’s health,” said Sun Yan, General Secretary of Shanghai Rongmao Charity Foundation and the Assistant President of the Shimao Group, at the ceremony.

As part of the activity, heads from the hospitals attended a video lecture live streamed by Shao Hong, Director of Performance Management of Xinhua Hospital. She talked about the theories and applied methods of performance management of department chiefs of modern hospitals, and focused on the performance evaluation systems in urban and rural hospitals.

Shao said a good evaluation system should be fair, objective and consistent to keep and retain young, talented doctors.

Apart from donating medical equipment, the Shimao Group also channels advanced medical philosophies and strong technical support of a top-class hospital like Xinhua to its charity hospitals. For example, Xinhua’s Department of Orthopedics will give priority to the Chihua hospital, as arthritis and rheumatism are common in Sichuan, partly caused by high humidity across the province’s rugged hills, mountains and plateaus.

In rural areas, adequate healthcare is crucial for the people to live a better life. Committed to people’s health in rural areas and China’s rural revitalization, the Shimao Group launched the “Putting Love into Healthcare” community service and funding program as a follow-up of its charity hospitals. In the future, it will continue to provide healthcare to rural areas by donating medical equipment on a regular basis, supporting the development of local doctors, and conducting extensive cooperation with other stakeholders.
