Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with President of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly Miroslav Lajcak here on Tuesday.

Wang said China firmly supports the important role that the United Nations has played in maintaining peace and promoting development, firmly supports multilateralism process and firmly safeguard the international system with the United Nations at the core.

"China is willing to strengthen cooperation with the United Nations to promote the settlement of regional hotspot issues through dialogue and negotiations, and cope with all sorts of global threats and challenges," Wang said.

Lajcak expressed thanks for China's support of multilateralism. He said that building a community with a shared future for mankind and the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by China will make great contributions to the peace and development of the world.
