The world’s first ±1,100 kV ultra-high-voltage direct current (UHVDC) transmission link was completed Monday.

The Changji-Guquan UHVDC link, spanning from northwest China’s Xinjiang to east China’s Anhui, has set a world record in terms of voltage level, transmission capacity and distance. As the main infrastructure to implement the Belt and Road Initiative, the power link will carry 12,000MW over 3,400km, leaping over six provinces with the capability to light up 400 million 30 Watt Bulbs.
