Chinese State Councilor, Iranian Foreign Minister hold talks

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met in Beijing.

Wang says the Iran nuclear deal was hard-earned and helped safeguard the international system of non-proliferation and maintain peace and stability in the Middle East.

He added that China regards Iran as an important partner in the Belt and Road construction, and willing to work with Iran to implement the consensus reached by leaders of the two countries to promote various cooperation.

Shanghai to further open up finance sector

Shanghai has announced new measures to further open its finance businesses.

This, in a bid to turn into an international financial center.

Officials say the city will further open up banking, securities and insurance sectors.

Foreign-funded banks will be encouraged to set up both branches and subsidiaries in Shanghai. 

The city will also support the establishment of securities, fund and futures companies with majority ownership by foreign capital.

US to open controversial Jerusalem embassy

The US opens its new embassy in Jerusalem.

It’s a move praised by Israel but condemned by Palestinians who are gathering for mass protests.

Top US officials will attend the event.

This includes President Trump's daughter Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner.

Trump's decision to move the embassy from Tel Aviv has angered Palestinians, who claim East Jerusalem as the capital of a future state.

Suicide bombers strike Indonesian police HQ

Two militants on a motorcycle blow themselves up at a police headquarters in Indonesia's second largest city of Surabaya.

At least 10 people were hurt, including officers.

This comes a day after a deadly wave of suicide bombings hit churches.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility after the latest suicide bombing incident.

41 people killed in storms across India

Dust storms, thunderstorms and rain  in India kill at least 41 people.

The storms uprooted trees and electricity poles.

Reports quoting officials say about 70 flights were diverted from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, and flight operations were suspended due to the storm.

China aiming to deliver world's largest amphibious aircraft by 2022

The China-developed AG-600 large amphibious aircraft is expected to be delivered to customers by 2022. 

Its first takeoff from water will take place at a large reservoir in Jingmen (in Hubei Province). 

Designed to be the world's largest amphibious aircraft, the AG-600 will be mainly used for maritime rescue, fighting forest fires and marine monitoring. 

It's undergoing test flights in Zhuhai, a coastal city in South China's Guangdong Province.

First China-Belgium freight train from Tangshan arrives in Antwerp

And the first China-Belgium freight train from China's Tangshan port arrives in the Belgian port of Antwerp.

This, after traveling 16 days over 11,000 kilometers. 

The train with 41 containers left Tangshan (in Hebei Province) on April 26. 

The direct railway link between China and Belgium is part of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative.
