2026 International Audio-Visual Arts Carnival in Shanghai promotes tech fusion and cultural economy

The 2026 International Audio-Visual Arts Carnival is taking place at the Shanghai Exhibition Center and across Jing'an District, bringing interactive audiovisual experiences directly into urban public spaces and commercial hubs.

Co-hosted by China Media Group (CMG) and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, the event bridges industrial innovation with everyday public culture, aiming to support the high-quality development of Shanghai's cultural tourism sector.

A central focus of this year's carnival is bringing advanced technology out of traditional venues and into the daily lives of local residents. Interactive displays across commercial zones allow visitors to engage with generative AI, spatial storytelling, ultra-high-definition displays and virtual reality.

"The festival introduces several creative elements, including a forum on the future of audiovisual arts, alongside various supporting events," Dong Dawei, a lead organizer of the carnival, told CMG.

"By connecting commercial districts through multi-scenario activities, we aim to sustain public engagement and drive economic vitality across the area," he said.

Wu Fangyi, deputy director of the Jing'an District Culture and Tourism Bureau, noted that the initiative seeks to integrate culture, technology and business.

"We hope to build an internationally recognized urban IP by blending creative design with future audiovisual tech to create an innovative environment for the industry," Wu told CMG.

Centered on public participation, the carnival includes an immersive experience space, interactive performances, technology salons and themed evening events. Corporate product releases and audiovisual concerts are also scheduled throughout the festival to highlight market activity in the cultural technology sector.

Running through October 18, the festival offers tech-driven cultural experiences across streets and venues throughout the district.
