Ethiopia signs road construction agreements with 4 Chinese firms

The Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) on Friday signed road construction agreements worth 188.5 million U.S. dollars with four Chinese firms.

In a press statement, ERA said the four road construction agreements totaling 299 kilometers will transform existing gravel roads to asphalt roads.

The first road construction project agreement which was signed between ERA and Ningxia Communications Construction Company is expected to cost 45 million U.S. dollars to finish and is anticipated to be completed in three years' time.

The second road construction project agreement which was signed between ERA and China Railway 14 Bureau Group is expected to cost 58 million U.S. dollars to finish and is anticipated to be completed in three years' time.

The third road construction project agreement which was signed between Hebei Construction Group Corporation Limited is to cost 46 million U.S. dollars to finish and is anticipated to be completed in three years' time.

The fourth road construction project agreement which was signed between China Railway Seventh Group Co. Ltd is expected to cost 49 million U.S. dollars to finish and is anticipated to be completed in three and half years' time.

The Ethiopian government is undertaking extensive road infrastructure projects, aiming to increase the country's main road coverage from 100,000 km in 2015 to 200,000 km in 2020.
