Chongqing – On July 12, Chongqing Xiyong Microelectronic Industrial Park and the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) signed a cooperation agreement to build the UESTC Microelectronics Industry Technology Research Institute jointly.

The goal is to conduct cooperation in such aspects as cultivation of high-caliber innovative talents, the establishment of innovative scientific and technological platforms, research of key technologies and transfer and transformation of scientific and technical achievements.
The signing of the cooperation agreement is the first program to promote all-round cooperation in Sichuan-Chongqing economic and social development after Chongqing’s delegation of the CPC committee and government went to Sichuan Province for study and inspection.
Based on national platforms such as the UESTC School of Microelectronics and the State Key Laboratory of Electronic Thin Films and Integrated Devices, the Institute combines the advantages of Xiyong Microelectronic Park, focusing on the gathering and cultivation of scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs urgently needed for the development of the integrated circuit industry.
The Institute builds public technology platforms for such fields as semiconductor materials, microelectronic process devices, integrated circuit design, and advanced package testing, introduces and incubates scientific and technological innovation and entrepreneurship talents, teams and high-quality scientific and technical achievements. Moreover, it builds a world-class scientific and technical innovation base for the integrated circuit industry, a postgraduate training base, an integrated circuit industry practice, and training center, an innovation & entrepreneurship demonstration base and a cluster area for top talents.
The program will establish a scientific research base. It takes the integrated circuit as the core and combines it with the industrial foundation of Xiyong Microelectronic Park. The institute establishes industry-university-research innovation platforms for areas like semiconductor materials, microelectronic process devices, integrated circuit design and advanced package testing with enterprises such as the CUMEC, CETC, and China Resources Microelectronics Limited. It introduces talents and intellectual resources at home and abroad, and carries out scientific and technological research and development, achievement transformation, and personnel training, to build a first-class industrial ecology of an integrated circuit.
The two parties will focus on the development needs of strategic emerging industries, jointly establish industrial bases for the cultivation and transformation of scientific and technological achievements, conduct the R&D, promotion, and application of technologies, make a breakthrough in several key common technologies and transform cutting-edge scientific and technical achievements.
As for the introduction and cultivation of high-caliber talents, the Base for Training, Internship, and Practice of Postgraduates of School of Microelectronics will be built. In addition, a think tank will be established.
Focusing on innovative and entrepreneurial systems such as integrated circuits, intelligent hardware, and automotive electronics, the two parties will incubate a group of technology-based enterprises, foster a group of high-tech industries, promote the gathering of industries and realize the integrated development in the industry-university-research-application mode.
Currently, Xiyong Microelectronic Park has established a crucial global base for the design and manufacturing of intelligent terminals, and it is building the largest power semiconductor base of China. To continually achieve quality and sustainable development, the Institute has prioritized research and development, leading to many breakthroughs.
