China eyes closer ties with Pakistan

Chinese President Xi Jinping attached great importance to the bilateral ties between China and Pakistan, saying China will prioritize the partnership in its foreign policy. 

He made the remarks while meeting with visiting Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan in Beijing on Friday.

Xi noted that the all-weather strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries is a special relationship formed and developed through mutual support and close cooperation.

No matter what changes take place on the international and domestic landscapes, China-Pakistan ties will remain lively and continue developing, the Chinese president emphasized. 

On Saturday, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang also pledged to strengthen its all-weather strategic cooperative partnership with Pakistan and build a closer community with a shared future between the two countries. Li made the remarks in Beijing when holding talks with the Pakistani prime minister. 

China and Pakistan are good neighbors, good friends and good partners, Li said, adding that the traditional friendship between the two countries is deep-rooted. (Xinhua-CGTN) 

CIIE attracts over 1,000 firms from Belt and Road countries

More than 1,000 firms from 58 countries along the Belt and Road will attend the inaugural China International Import Expo (CIIE) to be held in Shanghai, the Ministry of Commerce said Saturday. 

They are expected to display a variety of products from agricultural products to consumer goods and garments in a booth area of 45,000 square meters, it said. 

Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Bingnan said the expo will become another important prop for the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, offering new opportunities for foreign countries to expand exports to China. (Xinhua)

Erdogan implicates Saudi gov't for the first time in Khashoggi murder

Turkish President Recep Erdogan on Friday pointed directly at the Saudi government over last month's killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

It was the first time Erdogan has explicitly accused the Saudi government of involvement. The Turkish president vowed to continue to raise pertinent questions to get to the bottom of the fateful incident.

Khashoggi's body has not been found yet and one of Erdogan's presidential advisers, Yasin Aktay, on Friday said that the corpse may have been destroyed in acid after being cut up. (CGTN)

Venezuela condemns new US sanctions on gold exports

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Friday condemned new US sanctions against the OPEC member nation as "criminal" and "crazy".

The new sanctions limit gold exports from Venezuela. They also restrict US financial institutions from providing funds to the South American country. Maduro told government officials that the sanctions hurt private business in the country. 

However, Diosdado Cabello, the president of Venezuela's National Constituent Assembly made an assurance that the Venezuelan government is willing to talk with the US government because talks are "the fundamental tools to make policies." (CGTN)

'Long' Putin-Trump meeting planned at G20: Kremlin adviser

Russian President Vladimir Putin may hold a "long" meeting with US counterpart Donald Trump during the G20 summit later this month, Kremlin adviser Yuri Ushakov told state news agency RIA Novosti Friday. 

He added that the terms of the talks are still being decided by Washington. 

Ushakov said a meeting is also planned in Paris on November 11, where both leaders will attend a ceremony marking the end of World War 1. 

Putin and Trump last met in Helsinki this summer, after which the US leader was criticized at home for failing to publicly address sensitive issues with the Russian leader. (AFP)

Beijing 2022 licensed products to be sold on China's high-speed railways

One of four Beijing 2022 licensed products stores was officially opened in Beijing's Happy Valley on Saturday as part of a marketing program to open 18 stores this month and selling the products on China's high-speed railways. 

The 13 types of new products consist of silk scarves with snow mountain patterns, gold or silver products demonstrating the scenery of ancient capital Beijing and its traditional skating skills. 

Three more stores opened at China Central Television Tower, Radio Beijing Corporation and the Olympic Park. (Xinhua)

Man-eater tigress killed in India after massive hunt

A man-eater tigress which is alleged to have killed 14 people in the last year and a half was shot dead in India's western state of Maharashtra, officials said Saturday. 

The six-year-old tigress given the name Avni had two cubs. 

Forest officials said the tigress, and her cubs, had consumed 60 percent of a human corpse, which ultimately led to the decision to declare her a "man-eater" and passing of orders to kill her on sight. (Xinhua)
