Moscow hosts international high speed rail conference

Moscow (People's Daily) - The inaugural High Speed Railway International Scientific Conference, jointly hosted by China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group Co. Ltd and the Russian University of Transport, kicked off in Moscow on Wednesday.

More than 240 experts and scholars from China and Russia are taking part in the conference, including Deputy Director General of China Railways Huang Ming and Vice President of Russian Railways Aleksandr Misharin.

The conference theme is “High Speed Railways-Driver of Economic Growth.” Participants in the conference have discussed the influences of high speed railways on society, education, metropolitan agglomerations and industrial development. Based on a mutual agreement, the two countries will take turns in holding the conference once a year.

This year marks the 40 anniversary of China’s reform and opening up policy. The holding of this conference will promote and deepen Sino-Russian cooperation over high speed railway technology, and push the implementation of the Belt and Road initiative, according to experts.

China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group Co. Ltd, a cohost of the conference, has recently completed the design and survey work for a high speed line from Moscow to Kazan.
