China to maintain renminbi exchange rate at reasonable level: official

China’s currency continues to fall against the US dollar.

The onshore renminbi exchange rate plunged to the lowest point since August 2017 on Tuesday, while the offshore exchange rate slid 300 percentage points.

Chinese authorities say the yuan’s exchange rate will remain stable and at a reasonable and balanced level. (Global Times)

Tariffs' toll hits each state: study

The emerging trade war between the US and China and Canada threatens $3.9 billion in exports from Texas.

South Carolina also faces a similar backlash, with lawn mowers and steel and iron products the hardest hit.

The US Chamber of Commerce is protesting the Trump administration's handling of trade disputes, calling it "the wrong approach" as it risks derailing the US economy and sparking a global trade war.

The US is set to slap tariffs on $34 billion worth of additional goods from China on Friday. (China Daily)

Pompeo to visit DPRK to cement Trump-Kim meeting consensus

The White House says US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will travel to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea for talks.

The trip comes less than a month after US President Donald Trump met with top DPRK leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore on June 12.

A US delegation reportedly met with DPRK officials in Panmunjom to discuss the next steps to implementing a declaration signed at the Singapore summit. (Xinhua)

S. Korean basketball teams leave for Pyongyang for friendly match

South Korea's male and female basketball teams left for Pyongyang for friendly matches with players of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Two South Korean military transport planes flew to Pyongyang from an airport outside of Seoul. 

The delegations were composed of 50 male and female basketball players, government delegates, reporters, camera journalists and one sportscaster.

The friendly basketball matches are the first in 15 years between the two sides. (Xinhua)

Merkel, interior minister reach compromise over asylum policy dispute

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Interior Minister Horst Seehofer reach a compromise on their dispute over the asylum policy.

Seehofer says he would stay in office after he and Merkel's party agreed on how to prevent illegal migration between Germany and Austria.

Seehofer had threatened to resign as interior minister.

The conflict had almost toppled Germany's ruling coalition. (Xinhua)

China to develop new series of carrier rockets: expert

China aims to develop a new series of small, medium, large and heavy-lift Long March carrier rockets by 2030.

This, to meet the demands of its space operations.

The capacity of Chinese rockets would reach 140 tons for low-Earth orbit, 44 tons for Earth-Mars transfer orbit, 50 tons for Earth-Moon transfer orbit and 66 tons for geosynchronous transfer orbit in 2030.

One of the new generation rockets would be the heavy-lift Long March-9. (Xinhua)

China to fund rule of law for B&R disputes

And the Chinese government says it will fund dispute resolution systems on the Belt and Road initiative to improve the rule of law of countries involved in the initiative.

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working on setting up a database of treaties and agreements for firms and people from Belt and Road countries to gain access to it.

China’s cabinet announced plans to set up two international commercial courts to settle cross-border commercial disputes in the Belt and Road initiative. (Global Times)
