Section of CPEC's largest superhighway completed

Multan (People’s Daily) - A section of the 392-km Multan-Sukkur Motorway, the largest transportation infrastructure project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was inaugurated here in the country's Punjab province on May 26.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi inaugurated the section. Contracted to China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), the 33-km section was completed before the deadline.

Abbasi said the highway is a symbol of the close cooperation between Pakistan and China. He is thankful to the Chinese team’s hard work and he believes the project will provide much-needed transportation infrastructure to the Pakistani people and enhance exchanges between people from different regions.

Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing said the project is one of the largest transport infrastructure works under the framework of the Belt and Road initiative and CPEC. The project has created nearly 30,000 local jobs.

The cost of constructing the expressway was $2.89 billion. Funded by the China Export-Import Bank, the superhighway is the largest transportation infrastructure project under CPEC.
