Xi’an listed as top 20 trending destinations for travel in 2020

Xi’an has been listed as one of the top 20 trending destinations for travel in 2020 by Airbnb, the world largest homestay booking platform, and is the only city in China to be on the list.

The home rental platform used data from its website, taking into account growth in year-on-year bookings to predict the hottest new places to visit next year. 

This honor not only recognizes the development of cultural tourism of Xi'an, but also expands its international influence.

According to the list, the top 20 tourist destinations in 2020 are: 1. Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA; 2. Bilbao, Spain; 3. Buriram, Thailand; 4. Sunbury, Victoria, Australia; 5. Romania; 6. Xi'an, China; 7. Eugene, Oregon, USA; 8. Luxembourg; 9. Guadalajara, Mexico; 10. Vanuatu; 11. Cali, Colombia; 12. Cape Canaveral, Florida, USA; 13. Aberdeen, Scotland; 14. Courtenay, British Columbia, Canada; 15. Ubatuba, Brazil; 16. Laikontamine-Monrova, France; 17. Tokyo, Japan; 18. Kerala, India; 19. Malindi, Kenya; and 20. Maastricht, Netherlands.

In the first half of 2019, 139 million tourists visited Xi'an, an increase of 21.89 percent over the last year, with a tourism revenue of 145.78 billion yuan, an increase of 27.03 percent over the same period last year. 

In the international market, Xi'an has played the role of tourism promotion center. Officials of the Tourism Bureau have gone to Japan and South Korea three times for tourism promotional meetings, and successfully held the opening ceremony of the 2019 "East Asian Cultural Capital" in Xi'an. The tourism market of Japan and South Korea continues to increase.
