Alphabet reports 31 pct growth in Q4 revenue from YouTube advertising

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Google's parent company Alphabet Inc. Monday disclosed for the first time separate advertising revenue of its video-sharing platform YouTube, which earned 4.72 billion U.S. dollars in the fourth quarter of 2019, up 31 percent year over year.

In a report on financial performance for the quarter and fiscal year that ended on Dec. 31, 2019, Alphabet said YouTube's full-year ads sales rose 36 percent year on year to 15.1 billion dollars.

YouTube took up more than 10 percent of Alphabet's total revenue of about 46.1 billion dollars in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2019.

Alphabet generated about 162 billion dollars in revenue during the fiscal year, representing a growth of 18 percent.

Google Cloud revenue hit 2.6 billion dollars for the fourth quarter, with full-year sales topping 8.9 billion dollars, both up by 53 percent.

Google's total advertising revenue stood at 37.9 billion in the Q4 period, up from 32.5 billion dollars over the same quarter of 2018. The yearly sales were about 134.5 billion dollars in fiscal 2019, compared to 116.46 billion dollars in the previous year.

Alphabet witnessed a strong performance on bottom-line results, yielding 15.35 dollars of earnings per share in the fourth quarter. Its quarterly net income was 10.67 billion dollars, with the full-year net earnings being 34.3 billion dollars.

Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said he was satisfied with the revenue growth in both YouTube and Google Cloud.

"Our investments in deep computer science, including artificial intelligence, ambient computing and cloud computing, provide a strong base for continued growth and new opportunities across Alphabet," he said.
