The transportation hub will encompass multifunctional spaces and have a floor area of 2.38 million square meters, and will be the only comprehensive railway transit center linking the city’s two airports.

Railway stations, subways, bus hubs and supporting transport facilities will all be underground, according to the draft plan.

Many of the planned projects, ranging from infrastructure to education and culture—such as the new campus of the Renmin University of China and a museum—will be located in the eastern Tongzhou district.

Three light rail transit lines, totaling 62.5 kilometers, will be opened in the city this year and construction will start on two more metro lines.

Beijing plans to raise a total of 200 billion yuan for 136 projects, according to Tan Xuxiang, head of the Beijing Development and Reform Commission.

Investment contributes to more than 30 percent of the city’s economic growth. The largest investment serves Beijing’s ongoing efforts to restructure and update economic transformation and shift some of its administrative functions to the new sub-center.
