LONDON, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- British stocks decreased on Wednesday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index down by 2.55 percent, or 146.19 points, to close at 5,582.80 points.

Admiral Group, a motor insurance company, soared 0.87 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Next and Ocado Group increased by 0.72 percent and 0.04 percent, respectively.

Fresnillo, a Mexican-based precious metals mining company, was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 6.11 percent. Polymetal International, a precious metal mining company, dropped 5.58 percent. Informa, a multinational events and publishing company, fell 5.25 percent.
