China records 8.8% rise in US trade

China's foreign trade in goods with the United States reached 4.06 trillion yuan ($627.70 billion) in 2020, up 8.8 percent on a yearly basis, accounting for 12.6 percent of its total goods imports and exports in the year, according to latest data from the General Administration of Customs.

The country's exports to the U.S. were 3.13 trillion yuan, increasing 8.4 percent year-on-year, while imports from the U.S. grew 10.1 percent to 931.87 billion yuan last year.

It exported 1.92 trillion yuan of mechanical and electrical products to the U.S. in 2020, a rise of 9 percent on a yearly basis and accounted for 61.4 percent of its total goods exports to the latter.

Exports of laptops and mobile phones to the U.S. increased 23.4 percent and 4.6 percent year-on-year, respectively. The yearly growth in exports of labor-intensive products and exports of medical materials and medicines were respectively 9.8 percent and 30.7 percent last year.

China imported 162.74 billion yuan of agricultural products from the U.S. in 2020, up 66.9 percent from 2019.

Imports of pork and cotton surged by 223.8 percent and 121.7 percent, respectively, while imports of soybeans and crude oil grew respectively 56.3 percent and 88 percent year-on-year.

The imports of vehicles declined by 4.1 percent to 60.01 billion yuan from 2019 last year.
