BEIJING, April 18 (Xinhua) -- More than 1.89 million investors in China opened accounts to trade stocks on the Shanghai and Shenzhen bourses in March, industry data showed.

The number was up 111.21 percent from February, according to the China Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation Limited.

By the end of last month, the number of investors with A-share accounts reached around 163.34 million, the data showed.

Individual investors accounted for the majority of investors, reaching around 162.95 million, while some 389,200 institutional investors had accounts.
