China's Xinjiang hosts over 2.8 million tourists in first four days of Spring Festival holiday: data

China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region hosted more than 2.8 million tourists during the first four days of the week-long Spring Festival holiday, a year-on-year increase of 28.54 percent, according to data shared Friday with the People's Daily from the regional culture and tourism department.

Tourism revenue reached 2.107 billion yuan ($310.7 million), a year-on-year increase of 30.39 percent, the official data shows.
The Sayram Lake Scenic Area welcomed 62,500 tourists during the first four days, a year-on-year increase of 806.72 percent, said Xu Lei, a director with the scenic spot management committee. The area rolled out many new programs such as intangible cultural heritage performances, attracting more tourists.
During this same period, scenic spots around Bosten Lake, Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, received a total of 123,600 tourists, a year-on-year increase of 193.7 percent, creating tourism revenue of 37.155 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 234.55 percent.
During the week-long Spring Festival holiday, local Xinjiang authorities launched discount campaigns to further boost consumption.

Scenic spots in the Tianchi Scenic Zone in the Tianshan Mountains offered free tickets and family packages to travelers. In Kuqa county, a local scenic area put on local singing and dancing performances during which some members of the audience learned to dance along.
