The US government attack on the security of China's 5G technology and related Chinese companies is malicious, aimed at smearing China and containing Chinese high-tech firms to protect American business supremacy and technological monopoly, the Chinese Embassy in Brazil said in a statement on Saturday.

"We express strong discontent and vehement objection to such behaviors of publicly coercing and intervening in other countries' 5G construction and sabotaging normal China-Brazil cooperation," the embassy said.

The comment came as Tobias Bradford, spokesperson for the US Embassy in Brazil, said that in terms of 5G, "the US continues to have strong concerns about Huawei's potential role in the telecommunications infrastructure in Brazil, as well as in other countries around the world."

The statement was made after US national security adviser Jake Sullivan visited Brazil.

Huawei has played a leading role in building more than 1,500 telecommunications networks over the past 30 years for more than 170 countries and regions, servicing over a third of the global population. However, there has been no cyber-security incident and no country has ever provided proof about alleged "backdoor" embedded with Huawei products, the Chinese embassy said.

The advance and security of Huawei 5G products have been recognized by most telecom operators worldwide. The company created more than 16,000 jobs in Brazil in 22 years, maintaining strong ties with over 500 Brazilian companies. Its equipment covers about 50 percent local communications networks, serving around 95 percent of the country's population.

"The US is notorious for being the world's hacking empire and it is a real threat to global cybersecurity," the embassy said. For a long time, US intelligence agencies have carried out, on a large scale and in an organized and indiscriminate fashion, illegal cyber surveillance and espionage activities against foreign governments, including their allies, foreign enterprises and individuals, which severely violates the privacy and security of other countries, the Chinese embassy said.

In addition, the US abuses its power in smearing Chinese high-tech firms without any proof. The US' behavior is purely "hegemony", and has been and will continue to be widely resisted by the international community, said the embassy.

"We believe that Brazil will provide open, fair and non-discriminate market rules for foreign companies including Chinese companies, and will continue to build sound business environment for China-Brazil economic and trade cooperation," it said.
