Chinese shares close higher at midday

China's major stock indices ended higher in the morning session Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.9 percent to 2,830.44 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index gained 2.55 percent to end at 9,253.85 points at midday.
