Chinese shares close higher Friday

Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.79 percent to 2,924.2 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.81 percent higher at 9,228.55 points.

The combined turnover of stocks for the two indices stood at 349.96 billion yuan (about 50.99 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 363.06 billion yuan in the previous trading day.

Most stocks rose, with gainers outnumbering losers by 959 to 407 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,386 to 652 in Shenzhen.

Companies in the pipeline transportation sector were among the biggest gainers, with Jinhong Holding Group Co., Ltd. seeing its share price rise by the daily 10-percent limit to 4.62 yuan.

Shares related to agriculture led the losses, with shares of Wanxiang Doneed Co., Ltd. dropping 5.41 percent to 11.9 yuan apiece.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.15 percent to close at 1,541.98 points.
