Chinese shares close higher Monday

BEIJING, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Major Chinese stock indices ended higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.25 percent to end at 2,815.49 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.28 percent higher at 10,452.17 points.

The combined turnover of stocks on the two indices stood at 556.65 billion yuan (about 78.73 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 625.22 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers by 855 to 582 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,417 to 731 in Shenzhen.

Stocks related to banking and rural e-commerce registered strong performance, with Shenzhen Fortune Trend Technology Co., Ltd. seeing its share price rise by 87.41 percent to 201.3 yuan apiece.

Companies in the motor vehicle industry led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.74 percent to close at 2,018.67 points.
