BEIJING, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.02 percent to 3,397.29 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.19 percent higher at 14,044.1 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 881.1 billion yuan (about 135.06 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from 793.8 billion yuan on the previous trading day.

Stocks related to the liquor, coal and seed industries led the gains, with shares of Fujian Jinsen Forestry Co., Ltd. surging by the daily limit of 10 percent to close at 11.61 yuan apiece.

Going against the upward trend, businesses related to the photovoltaic and semiconductor sectors landed in the losing territory.
