BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.05 percent to 3,494.63 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.77 percent higher at 14,941.44 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 1.25 trillion yuan (about $193 billion), up from 1.22 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Stocks related to food and beverages led the gains, while those related to semi-conductors suffered losses.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, fell 0.98 percent to close at 3,456.75 points.
