Chinese shares close higher Monday

BEIJING, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 2.22 percent to close at 3,044.90 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 3.84 percent lower at 9,530.46 points.

The combined turnover in the two indices stood at 614.1 billion yuan (about 89.4 billion US dollars), rising from 415.5 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Most stocks rose, with gainers outnumbering losers by 1,411 to 38 on the Shanghai bourse and 2,067 to 65 in Shenzhen.

Stocks of consumer electronics and organic light-emitting diode (OLED) were among the bellwethers, with the Triumph Science & Technology Co. Ltd seeing its share price rise by the daily 10-percent limit to 5.37 yuan a share.

Bucking the trend, companies in planting and gold sectors saw their share prices drop.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 3.75 percent to close at 1,568.16 points.
