BEIJING, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.31 percent to close at 2,819.94 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.51 percent higher at 10,470.79 points.
