BEIJING, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.71 percent, at 3,576.20 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.11 percent higher at 15,356.4 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 1.22 trillion yuan (about 188.8 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from 1.17 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks in non-ferrous metals and steel led the gains, while those related to cloud gaming and computer equipment saw sharp losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.52 percent to close at 3,162.4 points Thursday.
