BEIJING, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.08 percent, at 3,482.55 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.08 percent higher at 13,989.94 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 767.3 billion yuan (about 117.2 billion U.S. dollars), up from 740 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to cosmetic medicine and the steel sector saw strong performances, while those related to carbon neutrality and shipping led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.7 percent to close at 2,826.99 points.
