BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.33 percent, at 3,050.12 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.63 percent higher at 10,430.77 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 532.65 billion yuan (about 76.35 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 611.02 billion yuan in the previous trading day.
Most stocks rose, with gainers outnumbering losers by 937 to 458 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,255 to 824 in Shenzhen.
Companies in the sectors of medicine and planting saw robust growth in share prices, with shares of Xiang Xue Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. rising 10.06 percent to finish at 8.86 yuan per share.
Shares of companies related to semi-conductors led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.44 percent to close at 1,798.12 points Tuesday.
