Chinese shares close higher Tuesday

BEIJING, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.39 percent, at 2,901.67 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.37 percent higher at 10,768.63 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 785.9 billion yuan (about 112.4 billion U.S. dollars), down from about 885.8 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers by 828 to 601 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,369 to 747 in Shenzhen.

Companies in the sector of steel, wine and wireless earphone sectors saw robust growth in share prices, with shares of Goertek Inc. surging by the daily limit of 10 percent.

Stocks in mask and disinfectant sectors led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.67 percent to close at 2,028.44 points Tuesday.
