BEIJING, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.07 percent, at 3,514.47 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.88 percent higher at 14,663.55 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 1.41 trillion yuan (217.31 billion U.S. dollars), up from 1.32 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to the oil and non-ferrous metal industry led the gains, while those related to the military industry and online education suffered losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.12 percent to close at 3,330.58 points Tuesday.
