Chinese shares close higher Tuesday

BEIJING, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with shares in husbandry leading the gains.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went up 0.52 percent to 3,078.34. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.54 percent higher at 9,674.53.

Combined trading volume of the two indices stood at 496.56 billion yuan (around 73.8 billion US dollars), shrinking from 645.85 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Most stocks gained, with gainers outnumbering losers by 1,105 to 312 on the Shanghai bourse, and 1,598 to 469 in Shenzhen.

Companies in husbandry were the biggest gainers. Shandong Minhe Animal Husbandry Co. Ltd. saw its share price rise 7.41 percent to 39.41 yuan a share.

Shares in brewing also posted robust performance with Tsingtao Brewery Co. Ltd. gaining 8.28 percent to 51 yuan.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board, went up 0.51 percent to close at 1,623.78.
