Chinese shares close higher Tuesday

BEIJING, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher Tuesday, with companies related to animal husbandry gaining the most.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went up 0.29 percent to close at 2,913.57 points, while the Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.30 percent higher at 9,474.75 points.
The combined trading volume of stocks at the two exchanges expanded to 373 billion yuan (about 52.74 billion U.S. dollars) from 352.5 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Most stocks surged, with gainers outnumbering losers by 734 to 652 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,048 to 987 in Shenzhen.
Recently companies in the animal husbandry sector were among the biggest winners, with shares of Shandong Minhe Animal Husbandry Co., Ltd. climbing by 6.31 percent to close at 32.34 yuan per share.
Meanwhile, companies related to radio, film and television programs led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.67 percent to close at 1,616.58 points
