Chinese shares close higher Wednesday

BEIJING, July 29 (Xinhua) - Chinese shares continued to climb Wednesday, with companies related to education leading the gains.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closed 2.06 percent higher at 3,294.55 points while the Shenzhen Component Index closed 3.12 percent higher at 13,557.44 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices expanded to nearly 1.05 trillion yuan (about 149.6 billion U.S. dollars) from 898 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Most stocks rose, with gainers outnumbering losers by 1,343 to 86 on the Shanghai bourse and 2,054 to 138 in Shenzhen.

Companies in the sector of education were among the biggest gainers, with shares of Xiamen Unigroup Xue Co., Ltd. surging by the daily limit of 10 percent to 79.31 yuan per share.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 3.78 percent to close at 2,767.4 points.
