BEIJING, June 9 (Xinhua) - Chinese stocks closed higher Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.32 percent, at 3,591.40 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.01 percent higher at 14,718.40 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 881 billion yuan (137.66 billion U.S. dollars), down from 985.4 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Shares related to coal led the gains, while those related to agricultural services led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.03 percent to close at 3,207.63 points.
