Chinese shares close higher Wednesday

BEIJING, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher Wednesday, with the biological medicine sector and free trade area related stocks leading the gains.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.85 percent higher, closing at 3,022.72. The Shenzhen Component Index grew 1.01 percent to 9,609.44.

Combined turnover on the two bourses decreased to 664.74 billion yuan (about 99 billion US dollars) from 768.3 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Gainers outnumbered Losers by 858 to 555 on the Shanghai bourse, and by 1,166 to 894 in Shenzhen.

The biological medicine sector led the rise. Shares of both Zhejiang Conba Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. and ZhuZhou QianJin Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. climbed by the daily 10-percent limit to 11.28 yuan apiece and 10.9 yuan per share, respectively.

Free trade area related stocks posted significant gains as well, with shares of Jiangsu Lianyungang Port Co. Ltd. and of Chongqing Gangjiu Co. Ltd. rising by the daily limit of 10 percent to 5.68 yuan a share and 5.57 yuan per share, respectively.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board, gained 0.46 percent to close at 1,637.77.
