Chinese shares close lower Monday

BEIJING, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.3 percent at 2890.08.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.74 percent lower at 8856.99.

The combined turnover of stocks in the two indices stood at 479.2 billion yuan (about 69.55 billion US dollars), shrinking from 437.47 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Most stocks fell, with losers outnumbering gainers by 1055 to 354 on the Shanghai bourse, and 1650 to 449 in Shenzhen.

Companies in 5G, gold and agriculture were among the biggest gainers, with Nanjing Huamai Technology Co. Ltd. seeing its share price rise by the daily 10-percent limit to 14.47 yuan a share.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth, lost 0.99 percent to close at 1,468.98.
