Chinese shares close lower Monday

BEIJING, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.92 percent, at 2,905.19 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.08 percent lower at 9446.24 points.

Combined trading volume of stocks in the two indices contracted to 352.5 billion yuan (about 49.84 billion U.S. dollars) from 397.7 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Digital currency and consumer electronics sectors led the losses, with shares of Julong Co., Ltd. plunging by the daily 10-percent limit to 9.18 yuan per share.

Bucking the trend, pork and animal vaccine producers were among the winners. New Hope Liuhe Co., ltd. saw its shares expand by 5.14 percent to 17.17 yuan per share.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, dipped 1.21 percent to close at 1,627.55 points.
