BEIJING, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.34 percent to 3,402.82 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.38 percent lower at 13,902.54 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 830.3 billion yuan (about 126.17 billion US dollars), down from 954 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers 876 to 544 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,295 to 917 in Shenzhen.

Stocks in the ceramics and petroleum industries led the gains, with shares of the Great Wall Of Culture Group Holding Co., Ltd. Guangdong rising by 6.88 percent to 5.9 yuan apiece.

Shares related to the home appliances industry led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of fast-growing enterprises, lost 0.43 percent to close at 2,674.8 points on Tuesday.
