BEIJING, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down by 0.54 percent, at 3,379.04 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.53 percent lower at 13,970.21 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 859.7 billion yuan (about 131.35 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 881.1 billion yuan on the previous trading day.

Stocks related to cloud gaming, communication devices, and digital currencies led the gains, with shares of Genimous Technology CO., Ltd. surging by the daily limit of 10 percent to close at 5.5 yuan apiece.

Businesses related to the coal and electricity sectors were among the biggest losers.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.05 percent to close at 2,813 points.
