BEIJING, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.78 percent, at 2,920.90 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.81 percent lower at 11,243.62 points. 

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two major indices was 720.97 billion yuan (about 102.11 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from 615.1 billion yuan on the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers by 1,017 to 419 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,399 to 724 in Shenzhen.

Companies related to cloud games, automobiles and Tesla led the gains, with shares of Hunan Sokan New Materials Co., Ltd. surging by the daily limit of 10 percent to 94.5 yuan per share.

Sectors in pork, food processing and liquor led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, dropped by 0.29 percent to close at 2,195.64 points on Thursday.
