BEIJING, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese major stock indices ended lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dipping 0.26 percent to 2,526.46 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.12 percent lower at 7,391.65 points.

The combined turnover of stocks in the two indices declined to 299.7 billion yuan (about 43.7 billion U.S. dollars) from 347.3 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Most shares lost, and ship producers were among the heaviest losers, with Ya Guang Technology Group seeing a near-5-percent decrease to 9.46 yuan per share.

Aircraft manufacturers ended the rising trend on Monday, with the sub-index dropping 2.17 percent. Jiangxi Hongdu Aviation Industry Co., Ltd. fell 5.56 percent to 10.7 yuan per share.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, was down 0.36 percent to close at 1,263.51 points Tuesday.
