Chinese shares close lower Tuesday

BEIJING, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.96 percent, at 2,862.28 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.23 percent lower at 8,748.27 points.

The combined turnover of stocks in the two indices stood at 422.4 billion yuan (about 61.3 billion US dollars), shrinking from 479.2 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Most stocks fell, with losers outnumbering gainers by 1,141 to 273 on the Shanghai bourse, and 1,706 to 396 in Shenzhen.

Agricultural stocks were among the biggest losers, with Gansu Dunhuang Seed Co., Ltd. seeing its share price down by the daily 10-percent limit to 7.62 yuan a share.

Bucking the trend, shares related to 5G and telecommunication services gained with shares of Guomai Technologies, Inc. rising by the daily limit.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.87 percent to close at 1,456.27 points.
