Chinese shares close lower Tuesday

BEIJING, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.87 percent at 2,982.07.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.02 percent lower at 9,118.10.

The combined turnover of stocks in the two indices stood at 513.31 billion yuan (about 74.85 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from 495.05 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Most stocks fell, with losers outnumbering gainers by 1,091 to 339 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,645 to 450 in Shenzhen.

Companies in the sectors of gold mining, Shanghai free trade zone and ST concept were among the biggest gainers, with Chifeng Jilong Gold Mining Co., Ltd. seeing its share price rise by the daily 10-percent limit to 6.35 yuan a share.

The Shanghai Jinqiao Export Processing Zone Development Co., Ltd. saw its share price rise by the daily 10-percent limit to 15.90 yuan a share.

Shares related to rare earth permanent magnet, stock farming and semiconductor led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.06 percent to close at 1,498.47.
