Chinese shares close lower Wednesday

BEIJING, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.72 percent to close at 2,575.58 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.07 percent lower at 7,470.47 points.

The combined turnover of stocks on the two indices stood at 237.3 billion yuan (about 35.24 billion US dollars), down from 293.8 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Most shares lost, with losers outnumbering gainers 1,115 to 282 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,679 to 376 in Shenzhen.

The motorcycle and textile machinery industries were the biggest losers. Chongqing Zongshen Power Machinery declined 8.44 percent to close at 4.99 yuan per share, while Geron lost 4.67 percent to close at 14.28 yuan per share.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board, dropped 1.03 percent to close at 1,230.82.
