BEIJING, May 24 (Xinhua) -- China's major stock indices closed mixed Friday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.02 percent to close at 2,852.99 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.37 percent lower at 8,776.77 points.
The combined turnover of stocks at the two exchanges stood at 380.9 billion yuan (55.1 billion U.S. dollars), down from 464.6 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Losers outnumbered gainers by 812 to 559 on the Shanghai bourse, and 1,327 to 715 in Shenzhen.
The liquor-making sector gained most across the board. Fujian Yanjing Huiquan Brewery Co. Ltd. shares rose by 2.4 percent to close at 7.68 yuan per share.
Stocks of the shipbuilding industry, however, lost ground. Bestway Marine & Energy Technology Co. Ltd. dropped by 8.12 percent to 3.17 yuan per share.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.52 percent to close at 1,443.75 points Friday.
